My name is Melody Johnson, founder of the Donkey Whisperer Farm®. 

Since 2013, I’ve helped thousands of donkey owners and caretakers worldwide build trust and fair leadership—all while staying On Donkey Time®.  Using my donkey adjustable soft yacht rope halter with a matching lead line is a complete game-changer.   Featuring fiador knots positioned precisely under the cheekbone for clear, instant communication: pull the lead line right to engage the left knot, pull left to gently guide the donkey to the right, and pull down to engage all knots for a complete stop.

Remember, donkeys are fast learners. When you change your behavior and your training plan, your donkey will quickly show you just how smart he or she really is.

Never push, pull, or chase a donkey. Never.

Instead, learn to communicate using knowledge, voice, tone, facial expressions, timing, body language, pressure, and an immediate release. Keep training sessions short so you don’t bore or stress your donkey, and always remember to end on a good note. Horses rely on flight, but donkeys are deep thinkers—the true chess players of the equine world.

You will learn how to recognize what your donkey is telling you and what to do when your donkey is fearful, refuses to come when called, rears, bolts, bites, or kicks. Instead of reacting with force, you will learn to use timing, words, voice, facial expressions, body language, reverse psychology, movement or no movement, and positive reinforcement to communicate clearly with your donkey. Sometimes positive reinforcement can be as simple as a rub on the withers, a calm voice, or a small bite of carrot when appropriate. Never give a treat for a try, as you are not a treat dispenser; you are a fair leader.
